Both a shipboard specialty focused on pure seamanship skills such as anchor and line handling, deck maintenance, rigging, etc.; also as "the Boatswain" the senior petty or warrant officer of the branch, and, by custom, the senior petty or warrant officer; pronounced "bosun" and often written "bos'n"
