How to start a Workgroup Week for your workgroup: instructions for using this template

Would you like to see a Workgroup Week started for your workgroup? You can help organize it. You don't have to do all the work yourself, though. These instructions will show you how to rope in other people to help, and generally get the ball rolling. See also CZ:Workgroup Weeks/Preparation.

  • Please use the following as a template for planning a Workgroup Week in your own beloved workgroup. It is a sign-up page for people organizing your Workgroup Week.
  • For uniformity, copy the following template to [[CZ:XYZ Workgroup/Workgroup Week]]; for example, for the Philosophy Workgroup, it would go on CZ:Philosophy Workgroup/Workgroup Week.
  • The page should then be linked from the workgroup page ([[CZ:XYZ Workgroup]]; for instance, CZ:Philosophy Workgroup) as well as CZ:Workgroup Weeks#Workgroup sign-up pages.
  • Add your name to the signup list; volunteer to do something.
  • Then, announce the new page on Citizendium-L, Citizendium-Editors (or e-mail a copy to an editor for posting, or to sanger@citizendium.org and Larry will post it there), as well as your workgroup's mailing list.
  • The essential first step is to locate an editor in the workgroup who will agree to serve as Workgroup Week Coordinator. There will be a fair bit of work for this person when the Workgroup Week rolls around. If you are an editor, you can volunteer to do this. See this bit for more info.

Template

Copy starting just below. Replace all bold text with appropriate words.

Welcome to XYZ Week planning!

We are planning a big "online convention" of XYZ-ologists here on the Citizendium. Would you like to see more work done in XYZ? Then here is your chance to make a difference. Leading up to this week, we will be doing quite a bit of recruitment (on XYZ mailing lists, departments, and so forth). We'll try to tap into many networks so that there is general awareness both of the Citizendium and of this special week. Consider it a major kick-off for the XYZ Workgroup.

We need your help to make this happen. This page lists volunteers for different (mostly recruitment) functions. Won't you sign up and make the XYZ Week a success? Any author can sign up to do anything, other than serve as the coordinator for the week.

Dates: not yet set

The week dates can be set when there are adequate numbers of volunteers below, and must be coordinated on Workgroup Weeks. There can't be two Workgroup Weeks happening at the same time.

XYZ Week Coordinator(s): no volunteer yet

Any editor in the XYZ Workgroup may volunteer; we can have up to two coordinators, and two is better if any one coordinator is relatively short on time.

For general rationale and explanation of the following, please see this page.
