Christmas in the Trenches is a popular term used to describe the Christmas Truces of World War I. It is also the title of a song by John McCutcheon; one of the best-known of the many songs describing the incident which took place on December 24, 1914, when British and German soldiers ceased hostilities to sing Christmas carols, play a game of football and exchange token gifts.
