User:Chris Cranmer
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1980, Mr. Cranmer is currently a serving member of Her Majesty's Armed Forces (the Royal Navy) in the United Kingdom and has been since early 2001. A man of many, many interests, Mr. Cranmer has read books on almost every subject from Accounting to Zoology but has always shown a preference for evolutionary theory, religion and applicable social sciences; his favourite authors including Charles Darwin, Richard Dawkins, Friedrich Nietzsche, Steven Pinker, John Wilmot, John Ronald Tolkien and Charles Dickens. He is currently doing his best to write a book on historical witchcraft throughout the ages, but has little in the way of academic qualifications as official education, with its constant gearing toward the passing of exams instead of learning a subject, holds very limited interest for him. He has, however, embarked on an Open University Degree in Humanities.
Mr. Cranmer first saw attention in November of 2004 when, while serving aboard HMS Cumberland, he was registered as the first official Satanist to serve in the British Military. A member of the international Church of Satan, he simply wanted to be honest with himself and his peers and the story first broke in the British broadsheet, The Sunday Telegraph. That first article remains the most accurate on the topic to date, however, many more articles appeared (most being hopelessly researched, misunderstood and deliberately sensationalised) at the time and the story has popped up frequently since then. Mr. Cranmer remains a proud member of the Royal Navy and a member of good standing in the Church of Satan.
