There is a section of Brooklyn, New York, that has been called for the past ten years or so "DUMBO" (an acronym for "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass," or some such). Although I hate the designation -- the area should be called "Fulton Ferry Landing," as it historically has been -- it's a real-estate agents' shorthand -- the term appears in newspapers and popular discourse, so it'll have to be encyclopediaized.
