"The Village at Purcell Store" was settled in 1764, and in 1852 it was renamed Purcellville. The town was incorperated by the Virginia General Assembly in 1908. A small town with a friendly atmosphere, the influence of Victorian architecture is visable in the older buildings that make up much of the down-town area. Purcellville was a stop on the WO&D rail line from 1874-1968.
