Larry this is a good start to a difficult problem. Did you ask Jason or Greg if they can automate this? Chris Day (talk) 14:57, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
I didn't, actually...they're too busy, really, so I wouldn't even bother. --Larry Sanger 15:19, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
- I just adjusted the {{Blank metadata}} template to be more consistent with the way the constables are doing the approval. Chris Day (talk) 16:35, 5 September 2007 (CDT)
bug
In articles that have been created with these templates the link to the special characters at the bottom of the editing page doesn't work. Hayford Peirce 16:50, 8 September 2007 (CDT)
Fifth step
Could someone add another step (before the last): add {{subpages}} to the talk page. --Larry Sanger 12:43, 6 October 2007 (CDT)
Old methods
Method 1
- Start an article and include the {{subpages}} template at the top.
- At the top of the new article, below the messy green template, a prompt will appear to create a metadata template. Follow the instructions, similar to STEP1 below.
- On the main article, you will then be prompted to create the two utility pages that are common to all articles; the Talk page and the Approval page.
- Once the metadata page and both utility pages are created the article cluster is complete.
Method 2
You'll follow four steps, creating four pages. After completing a step, just use your browser's "back" button to return here.
STEP 1. Create the "metadata template." It's OK, you don't need to know what this means. :-)
(2) In the box above, replace ARTICLE_NAME with the new article name,
making sure that you leave "Template:" and "/Metadata" around the new name.
(3) Then press the button.
(4) On the page that appears, put the title in again across from
pagename =
.You might also fill out the checklist part of the form. Ignore the rest.
See this page if you're curious. Don't worry--you'll get the hang of it right away.
(5) Save.
STEP 2. Create "approval" page.
(2) Save (you'll see {{subpages}} in the box--leave it there).
STEP 3. Create "Talk" page.
(2) Save (you'll see {{subpages}} in the box--leave it there).
STEP 4. Start the article itself!
(2) Start that article!
(3) For "extra credit," link to your new article from an old one.
STEP 3 - Make the Approval page
If I am not mistaken, step 3 is no longer done when creating a topic. The constable creates the approval page when the article is nominated for approval. Not making the change in case I'm wrong... --Chris Key 15:32, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
