I have 30 years experience in both research and development and more than 50 publications and several patents in the field of Agricultural Biotechnology. Education: B.Sc. in Biochemistry, Ph.D. in plant tissue culture (with H.Street, U.Leicester, England). I did Postdocs in the laboratories of Rob Schilperoort in Leiden and Ingo Potrykus in Basel, Switzerland.

Before Bayer CropScience (BCS), I worked for 11 years at Ciba-Geigy (now Syngenta) starting in 1986 where I developed transformation technologies in maize including using Agrobacterium, protoplasts, biolistics and other transformation methods, and managed the maize transformation patent portfolio.

I joined a predecessor (AgrEvo) of my present company in 1997 to build the team in the USA carrying out studies for registration of Biotechnology-derived crops. I am presently responsible in the Americas for external technical issues concerning BioScience analytical methods and reference materials, which involves evaluating 3rd party laboratories and identifying the method and material needs for the laboratories as well as development of protein-based test methods.

I represent BCS in global organizations and industry consortia involved in testing methods, and am involved in developing ISO standards for Bioanalytical methods ([[1]TC_34/SC_16] ) and in Codex CCMAS work. I have served on the ILSI International Food Biotechnology Committee(http://www.ilsi.org/AboutILSI/IFBIC/ IFBiC) and several of its task forces since 2001, chaired the composition database [2]task force from 2001 to 2004, and became chair of the IFBiC in January of 2005. Recently, I have cooperated with international and national organizations to organize workshops on sampling and detection methods for products of agricultural biotechnology, among other topics.
I am married with 3 grown up children and in my spare time I like to garden, golf and am involved in teaching orienteering to Boy Scouts.
